Also known as Purple Horsemint, Lemon Bee Balm is an annual herb in the mint family which has incredibly unique and beautiful Lavender-to-pink, tuft-like, whorled flower heads. Pollinators love this plant and she will attract hummingbirds, bees and butterflies when planted in the garden.
The aromatic compound citronellol that found in this friend are reminiscent of lemons and of oregano later into the growing season. It makes an efficient insect repellent when rubbed on the skin. Lemon bee balm also makes an excellent tea herb and is helpful for respiratory infections, colds and flu. The leaves and flowers are edible and can also be added in small amounts to varying dishes.
