California poppy is a North American native plant famous for helping bring psychological equilibrium. The distinct cup-shaped flower has golden orange petals delicately held by fringed and feathery greyish green leaves. California Poppy can be found growing wild across the western states into Canada and on the east coast. California is known as the "Golden State" in part because of the massive blooms of these delicate wildflowers every year. The state made California poppy it's official flower.

Once upon a time California Poppy has been worked with by the local Native American Nations as a sedative for children. They also crushed the entire plant into a compress as a topical vulnerary and used the root to ease various aches and pains. Today we work with this beauty and recognize its gentle sedative, antispasmodic, analgesic properties and find it a very effective herbal ally for helping ease nervous tension and anxiety. The aerial parts and roots of this wildflower show tremendous promise in helping diminishing insomnia as well. And while higher doses of California poppy are sedating, lower doses help lessen anxiety and lower stress without changing one's overall affect.
